Alexander Hertel-Fernandez

Alexander Hertel-Fernandez is the Herbert H. Lehman Professor of Government at Columbia University, where his research and teaching focuses on the intersection of politics and markets, labor policy and politics, and the design of public policy. He co-leads the Columbia Labor Lab, an academic center for implementing rigorous, data-driven evaluations in partnership with worker organizations. He previously served in the Biden-Harris Administration in the U.S. Department of Labor and the Office of Management and Budget and is the author or co-editor of three books, most recently “The American Political Economy” (Cambridge, 2021). He is a visiting fellow with the Washington Center for Equitable Growth.
